Picture this. You are standing on a cold, damp railway platform in the middle of November. The rain is coming down sideways, the overhead display screen just announced another twenty-minute delay, and your umbrella has decided to collapse. Your feet are freezing. You are carrying a heavy bag, your shoulders ache, and your mind is racing with the bills you need to pay, the family drama you need to sort out, and the sheer exhaustion of another long week.
In that exact moment, you take a deep breath and look up at the grey sky.
Does the God who created the cosmos actually care about your wet socks? Does He understand the dull ache in your lower back or the quiet anxiety creeping into your chest? Or is He simply too busy managing galaxies and orchestrating human history to notice a tired person standing on a station platform waiting for a train?
We often live our lives with a fractured view of Jesus. We tend to swing between two extremes. On one hand, we build a beautiful, stained-glass image of an ancient King. He is holy, powerful, and completely out of reach. He sits on a glorious throne, far removed from the mess of our kitchen tables and the stress of our work offices. On the other hand, we treat Him like a helpful, historical friend. He is a nice teacher who walked the earth, gave us some good moral advice, and showed us how to be kind.
The trouble is, a distant God can’t comfort your lonely nights. A powerless friend can’t heal your sickness or break your addictions.
You need the whole truth. You need to meet the real Jesus.
This month, we are looking at the most mind-bending, life-altering truth in history. Jesus Christ isn’t half-man and half-God. He isn’t a mythical hybrid. He is fully human and fully God at the exact same time. He is the God-Man. When you grasp this reality, your daily walk with Him will never be the same again.
The Friend Who Knows Your Tuesday Mornings
Let us begin with His humanity.
Sometimes we read the Gospels through a lens of holy poetry, forgetting that Jesus lived a physical, tangible life in a real, dusty world. He didn’t float three inches above the ground. He didn’t have a glowing golden halo hovering over His head as He walked down the street. He got dirt under His fingernails. His muscles ached after a long day of physical labour in a carpenter’s workshop.
Jesus understands your daily struggles. He knows the weight of tiredness. We see Him in the Gospels, so exhausted from ministry that He falls fast asleep in the back of a wooden fishing boat. The waves are crashing, the wind is howling, the disciples are screaming in terror, and Jesus is fast asleep on a cushion. That isn’t a holy act; that is the sheer physical exhaustion of a man who worked until His body demanded rest.
When you feel like you can’t lift your head off the pillow, Jesus looks at you with complete empathy. He knows exactly how that feels.
He knows the sting of grief. When He stood outside the tomb of His friend Lazarus, He didn’t offer a cold, theological explanation about the resurrection. He didn’t tell the grieving sisters to pull themselves together. The Bible tells us, in the shortest and most poignant verse of all, that Jesus wept. He stood in a cemetery, with tears streaming down His face, feeling the raw, throat-tightening pain of losing someone He loved.
If you are walking through a season of loss, if you are sitting in an empty room wishing you could hear a loved one’s voice just one more time, know this. Your Saviour has cried those same tears. He doesn’t look down on your grief. He sits in it with you.
He felt the burning pain of physical hunger. After forty days in the wilderness, His body was crying out for food. He knew the sharp, physical cramping of an empty stomach. He knew what it was like to be physically weak, vulnerable, and pushed to the absolute limit.
Every single temptation you face, every physical limitation you carry, and every emotional bruise you suffer has passed through the experience of Jesus first. He didn’t live a sheltered life. He lived in the raw, messy reality of our broken world. He is your brother. He is your close friend. He is the one who walks beside you through every ordinary, difficult moment of your week.
The King Who Commands the Wild Storms
At the exact same time, Jesus is Almighty God.
While He was sleeping on that cushion in the boat, His disciples woke Him up. They were terrified of drowning. Jesus didn’t rub His eyes, look for an escape plan, or call for help. He stood up in the middle of the storm, looked at the roaring wind and the towering waves, and spoke.
“Peace, be still.”
Instantly, the wind dropped. The sea became as flat as glass. The men in the boat were terrified. They asked each other who this could possibly be, because even the wind and the waves obeyed Him.
This is the divine Christ. He is the one who commands the wild winds. He is the one who spoke light into existence. He is the one who flings stars into space, naming every single one of them. He doesn’t just sympathise with your problems; He has absolute authority over them.
Think about the blind man sitting by the dusty roadside. Jesus didn’t just offer him a kind word or a cup of water. He touched those useless eyes, and light rushed in. He commanded the optic nerves to work. He restored sight with a single touch.
Think about the leper, cast out from society, living in isolation and physical decay. Jesus didn’t just wave from a safe distance. He reached out, touched the diseased skin, and made it completely whole.
Jesus forgives sins. The religious leaders of His day got angry about this because they knew only God could forgive sins. Yet, Jesus looked at broken, guilt-ridden people and told them their sins were gone. He wiped their slates clean.
Most importantly, He defeated death itself. He didn’t stay in that dark, cold tomb. On the third day, the earth shook, the stone rolled away, and Jesus walked out into the morning light, holding the keys of death and the grave.
This isn’t just a good man. This is the King of Glory. This is the Lord of Hosts. He is sovereign, all-powerful, and completely victorious.
The Danger of a Divided Jesus
We run into serious trouble when we separate these two natures.
If you only look at the divinity of Jesus, you will end up believing He is distant. You will see Him as a cold, heavenly monarch who is far too grand to care about your daily life. You might pray formal, lifeless prayers, feeling like you have to perform or use holy language to get His attention. You will assume He is disappointed by your weakness and angry at your struggles. You will lose the warmth of His friendship.
If you only look at His humanity, you will lose your expectation of the miraculous. You will treat Jesus like a historical mentor. You will admire His teachings on peace and love, but you won’t expect Him to do anything powerful in your life today. When cancer strikes, when a marriage falls apart, or when your mental health takes a dark turn, you will rely entirely on human wisdom. You will forget that He is the God who still heals, delivers, and restores.
You need to know both.
When you realise He is fully human, you find a friend who truly understands you. You can talk to Him about your sleepless nights, your financial worries, and your secret doubts. You don’t have to hide your pain or pretend you have everything together. He has been here. He knows.
When you realise He is fully God, you find a Lord who can rescue you from any storm. You don’t have to live in fear of the future. The same voice that calmed the Galilean storm is speaking over your life today. The same power that raised Him from the dead lives in you by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit and the God-Man
This is where the supernatural reality of our faith comes alive.
Jesus lived His earthly life in total dependence on the Holy Spirit. He didn’t do His miracles as a distant God waving a magic wand. He did them as a man fully anointed and empowered by the Spirit. He showed us what is possible when a human being walks in perfect union with God.
Before He returned to heaven, Jesus promised that He wouldn’t leave us as orphans. He sent the Holy Spirit to live inside us.
This means the very same Spirit who empowered the God-Man is active in your life today. You’re not meant to live a dry, intellectual Christian life. You are meant to live a life marked by the supernatural.
This month, let the Holy Spirit open your eyes to the complete picture of Jesus. Walk with Him as your brother. Tell Him about your day. Share your frustrations, your joys, and your mundane moments. Lean into His comforting presence when you are tired.
At the same time, worship Him as your King. Bow before His majesty. Pray bold prayers. Expect His supernatural power to break into your ordinary week. Don’t settle for a small, manageable Jesus. Expect Him to move in your family, your workplace, and your community.
A Decisive Moment: Stop Watching, Start Following
Knowing about Jesus isn’t the same as knowing Him. You can study theology for a lifetime, memorise every Bible verse about His two natures, and still miss the heartbeat of the Living God. Faith was never meant to be an intellectual hobby or a Sunday routine. It is a radical, life-disrupting call to follow a real Person.
Right now, Jesus is inviting you to step out of the crowd. He is calling you to move past the simple, safe ideas you have built around Him.
If you have kept Him locked in a stained-glass window, He is calling you to open your heart and let Him walk with you through your messy, chaotic kitchen on a Tuesday morning. He wants to hear your raw thoughts. He wants to carry your anxiety.
If you have kept Him in a box as a polite historical teacher, He is calling you to lift your eyes and see Him standing in authority over your storms. He wants you to trust Him with your impossible situations. He wants you to believe that He can still heal, break addictions, and bring dead things back to life.
